This is a quote from an article I read:

"How powerful? How about 197 base horsepower after EPA officials allegedly forced Kawasaki to reduce the output by 20 horsepower in America."

Is that exaggerated.....or real numbers?

If real, that tells me an ECU, fuel mapping/tune and exhaust will result in 217 hp, or just vet Euro model and already at 217 due to no EPA de-tune?

Shit.

It will be 197 for normal model and 177 for a us model :)

So same hp numbers as the 2011-12 for both euro and us models?

Link to the article? The 2013 ZX10R has already been announced, and there was no mention of any engine or tuning changes. Electronic steering damper and that's about it.

Haga already said it "It will be 197 for normal model and 177 for a us model :) "

Those are standard numbers that have existed since launch on the gen 4's, why the suprise?

Crank, not rwhp! Even when Kawai was about to launch the gen 4, they said it would be nearly 200hp (again, motor not rwhp).

Same exact bike as 2011....different color setup...and minor changes but not a totally new motor. Same exact thing they did with the gen 3 (2008-2010)

Don't know why they even list the crank power. Should just be RWHP.. Nothing else really matters, and just ends up confusing alot of people.

... because crank power is a bigger number (advertising), and because it's really hard for a third party to validate their claims. Show me one dyno that can pull the power straight off the crank of a bike engine. Not from the transmission output (countershaft) - the CRANK. In many cases, there is simply no way to do it.

Exactly my point.
Just causes confusion. RWHP is the only number that matters.

And the weightratio has to be with a full thank and all lubs on the bike, so full RWHP + full weight would be the go for all bikes from now on, nothing else mathers in this world imo

Crank HP numbers do matter, just not for the majority of us. Someone using the motor for a project will not have the same drive train with the same parasitic loss. Dry weight is another thing that is almost useless for most of us. Not all fluids weigh the same and we don't all use the same amounts.

Only number that matter is the HP to the rear wheel.
From what I've heard guys with ecu flash, fuel map, slip on or full exhaust etc, are trying to hit around 180 RWHP. Maybe with some engine work (degreed cams or thin head gasket, epoxy, and what not) and some MR12 can be in the 190's+ RWHP.

Kawasaki claims 185 bhp S.A.E for US model.

True. Sort of. You could dyno your bike on ten different dynos in one day and get ten drastically different numbers for your bike. Too many variables. AND for purposes other than bench racing, those numbers don't mean shit.
